Recipe – Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Creamed Corn

The use of corn in making homemade recipes is an art that dates back to as far as when Christopher Columbus first arrived in America. Today, corn is used to prepare many dishes all over the world, especially during winter.

Cream of corn and creamed corn are perfect examples of corn recipes, and they are a favorite in many households. However, some people do not know the difference between these two sweetly comforting dishes.

Cream of Corn VS Creamed Corn

Cream of corn is a cold-fighting cream soup. In cream of corn recipe, the corn kernels are ground and combined with other soup ingredients (including cream milk and butter) that enhance its soft flavor and add a taste of freshness.

The sweetness of cream of corn makes it a perfect dish for kids. Moms also love it as it is cheap and easy to prepare.

On the other hand, creamed corn is a much loved decadent side party dish, and it’s effortless to make. Creamed corn must be made with fresh corn and should be prepared in a slow cooker.  Using fresh corn is important because it guarantees perfection and it also the gives the corn extra time to soak in the creamy and buttery bath making it fresh and yummy on a buffet table.  However, thawed frzen corn can be used in a pich.

So, let’s see how we can make a perfect creamed corn in a slow cooker. I hope you are ready for this culinary adventure.

How best to serve the dish?

Serve creamed corn as it pleases you. You can serve and joy your homemade delicious creamed corn treat on its own, or you can decide to garnish it with some veggies or shrimps. The choice is yours to make. I prefer mine with some veggies though.

How to store

Carefully put your creamed corn in an airtight container (make sure you get out as much air as possible) and place in a refrigerator. Ensure that the refrigerator is always on, so your creamed cord doesn’t go bad.

How long can it be stored?

You can store it for about two weeks in a refrigerator. However, it is advisable to store it for at most a week so you can still enjoy its fresh and delicious taste. Of course, no one would want to eat a bland creamed corn dish.

Cooking tip

Do not lift the lid while cooking your food in the slow cooker, unless otherwise stated by your recipe. The loss of steam each time you lift the lid can mean an additional 20-30 minutes of cooking time.
