  •  Sugar – 2 cups (473ml)
  •  Baking soda – 1 1/2; teaspoon (1.5ml)
  •  Cardamom – 1 ¼ teaspoon (1ml)
  •  Butter – 1 cup (230 ml)
  •  Salt – 1 1/2; teaspoon (7ml)
  •  Cloves – 1/2; teaspoons (2.5ml)
  •  Cinnamon – 1/2; teaspoons (4ml)
  •  Allspice – 1/2; teaspoons (2.5ml)
  •  Water – 1/2; cup (120 ml)
  •  Eggs – 2
  •  Unsweetened applesauce – 1 1/2; cups (355ml)

Preparation Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 35o degrees F (175 C).
  • Then, whisk together in a large bowl the cinnamon, flour, and baking soda and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the sugar, cardamom, and butter till they are fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and continue beating till homogenous.
  • Turn the mixer speed to a low-speed setting and add the ingredients from step 1 until well mixed.
  • Add the unsweetened applesauce while still mixing.
  • Generously coat cooking spray on a 9-inch tube pan. Spoon the batter into the pan and smoothen the top.
  • Bake until you can insert a toothpick in the middle and remove it cleanly. This should take you 40 to 50 minutes.
  • Place on a wire rack and wait ten minutes for it to cool. After cooling, turn the pan onto a baking sheet or cutting board.
  • Leave it to cool off completely, and afterward, dust with sugar for an aesthetic look.
