Recipe – Homemade Pumpkin Dog Bone Cookies

If you enjoy playing with your dog and love how excited he gets when you give him treats, you and your pup will love this seasonal recipe. The best part of this dog bone is that it’s super easy to make; you can even use your pumpkin puree leftovers.

Your dog will love the hard and crunchy texture of the biscuit so much that you’ll probably be cooking more than one batch.

Required Equipment

  • 2 large bowls
  • Electric mixer or whisks
  • Spatula
  • Bone-shaped cookie cutter
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking trays

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cups (6.9 oz / 195 grams) of canned or fresh pumpkin puree
  • 3 tablespoons (1.5 oz / 41 grams) of softened coconut oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 (2.6 oz / 80 ml) cup of water
  • 2 cups (9.1 oz / 260 g) of whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 teaspoon (0.1 oz / 2 grams) of baking soda
  • 1/3 teaspoon (0.1 oz / 1.3 grams) of baking powder

Preparation Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 375*F
  • In one bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, coconut oil, and water.
  • Once you have a smooth texture add the egg.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the remaining ingredients together.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients into the first mix and stir until it’s thoroughly combined. You should have a dough that feels solid yet slightly sticky.
  • Wrap your dough in plastic, put it in the fridge, and let it sit for around 10 minutes.
  • Take cookie dough out and place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll it out until you evenly reach 1/4 of an inch (5 – 6 mm).
  • With your cookie cutter, cut out the treats.
  • Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you finish the cookies.
  • if desired, decorate the cookies with a fork or other utensil,
  • Cover your cookie trays with parchment paper and place the treats on them. Make sure the cookies are separated by at least 1 inch (2.5 mm)
  • Bake for 20 – 25 minutes or until the dough harshens and looks golden.
  • Let the treats cool and enjoy with your dog.
