Making Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

The very mention of this cookie brings to mind the delightful sweet cookies that were once popular in America and England. They are a very addicting snack that pairs well with coffee, tea, or a glass of milk.

Inspired by the famous British cookbook, “The Nanny”. In this book, the mother-in-law provides a variety of raisins, mainly white and gold, that she makes for the family. One day, George Washington happened to overhear his mother in the kitchen making cookies. Like every good parent, she loved to prepare a simple cookie for her children. So one evening, she came up with the idea of combining the classic raisin cookies with the classic American oatmeal raisin cookie.

You will need two cups of dry oatmeal, two cups of sugar, two teaspoons of cinnamon, one teaspoon of ginger, one teaspoon of vanilla, one egg, and approximately a quarter cup of water. The mixture can be stirred well and then cooked at a low temperature for about five minutes. After removing from the heat, the cookies can be cooled on a wire rack. When completely cooled, they can be trimmed off their sheets and placed in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once the cookies have cooled, they can be baked at the normal oven temperature for about six to eight minutes depending on the size of your cookies.

For the classic oatmeal raisin cookie, you will be adding three to four cups of all-purpose flour to the mix. Also, you will be making a switch out of the white flour to whole wheat flour. Next, you will want to beat the eggs and sugar until they are combined and then add in the dry mixture. Then, you will take your cookie cutter and break the cookies into the shapes of a man, woman, horse, basketball, etc.

For the “man” cookie, you will be using two tablespoons of raisins and a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon. Add the ginger, cinnamon, and sugar mixture, and then spread them evenly on the top of the cookies. Bake the cookies for approximately ten to twelve minutes or until the bottom is set. Once the cookies are done, allow them to cool down and then cut them into single pieces.

The next two cookies that I am going to share with you are my oatmeal raisin cookies and my blackberry apple crisp. While both of these delicious cookies use raisins as their main ingredient, the difference between them is that the oatmeal raisin cookie is whole wheat flour while the apple crisp and calls for a slightly different all-purpose flour. Either way, these cookies are delicious and everyone should try them.

In terms of the ingredients that you will need for either of these awesome cookies, you will need your basic cooking utensils, a food processor, and some short-grain or whole-grain flour. You will also need some butter, sugar, cinnamon, and baking soda. Regardless of how you choose to make your oatmeal-raisin cookies, you will find that they are extremely delicious! These cookies are usually served as an after-dinner treat or a breakfast treat, so be sure that you keep some around for those times when you just want to have something to munch on before you retire for the night.

They are a lot different from your traditional cookie, but I have yet to find a cookie that can beat them! I personally love the taste and texture of these cookies, and you should too!
