Business – How To Go It Alone And Work Productively

“Go it Alone: Making Change Work by Getting Rid of the Reducers, Coaches, and Noise” by Bruce Judson is a great little book with many practical advice tips on time management. As a former big-time salesperson, I have had lots of success as a coach to salespeople. Most of their questions are built in my coaching sessions, but often they come up from new experiences and people who haven’t been really successful in life. They need to sort out what really works for them and what doesn’t. This book covers some of those key areas.

The book has four main parts, each focusing on a different aspect of people’s lives.

  • Part One is about the core ideas behind what really works for people. It talks about purpose, passion, flow, focus, and vision. The core ideas cover the key elements of what makes us tick.
  • Parts Two through Four look at aspects that can limit effectiveness.

Creating A Flow

Part One is about the basics of how to create flow. Focus on just one thing at a time in your life at one point in time. If you want more, you’ll come to it, but for now, just focus on one thing. This allows you to be much more effective and to create flow.

Part Two is about passion. You should have a passionate belief in what you are doing. It doesn’t have to be something you’ve always been passionate about. If you love what they’re doing, you’ll do it to the best of your ability and be much more effective.

Part Three is about focus. Focus is about what you are doing and why you’re doing it. Find what’s most important to you. The author even explains why it is so important to figure this out.

Part Four takes a critical look at the obstacles we face in our lives. We face so many distractions that it’s easy to fall behind. It’s also easy to get lost in the shuffle. Judson looks at how you can put yourself back in the flow.

You have to learn how to prioritize and then take action. Focus is essential to creating flow. If you skip steps, you’ll find that your work will suffer. The book has a lot of great practical advice and illustrations and exercises to get you started.
