Homemade pizza ideas can add the perfect finishing touch to an intimate evening
in or a festive get-together, whether at home or among friends. The key is finding
an ideal balance of flavor, convenience and freshness using both store-bought and
homemade ingredients.

Make an irresistible dessert pizza with no-knead pizza dough by topping it with
chocolate spread, marshmallow fluff, and colorful sprinkles for an irresistible
dessert pizza treat! Or go savory by topping your pie with slices of fennel, halfed
figs and crumbled gorgonzola cheese instead!

## In-Season Fruits and Vegetables

If you love pizza and want to elevate your cooking game, try creating homemade pizzas
using seasonal ingredients. Seasonal cooking honors nature’s cycles while celebrating
unique tastes while supporting local producers and farmers.

Spring brings with it asparagus, peas, mushrooms and artichokes in abundance, which
make them the ideal ingredients to top a pizza with. By selecting seasonal produce
you will make your pie even more flavorful, nutritious and cost effective!

Vegetable-wise, roasted slices of eggplant, zucchini and yellow squash provide hearty
textures that pair perfectly with mozzarella cheese. Red onions and kalamata olives
also add a sharp and salty element that complements this pizza perfectly.

Prebake the crust before heating in your oven if you prefer using your oven instead
of a pizza pan to prepare pizza. Simply light brush with olive oil, heat for approximately
five minutes in your oven before adding toppings – this will prevent it from becoming
soggy or overdone in the middle, while also serving as an excellent way to use up
leftover pizza from earlier.

## Garlic & Pineapple Pizza

Pineapple and cheese make for an irresistibly satisfying combination on pizza, but
according to Blue Apron’s pizza experts, pineapple pairs well with salty meats such
as bacon and prosciutto, too! This recipe brings all those delicious flavors together
for homemade pizza that tastes just as great if not better than its takeout counterpart!

Homemade Ham and Pineapple Pizza features our go-to pizza dough – a mix of wheat
flour, bread flour and yeast, for a lighter and crispier crust ideal for any pizza!

To create the pizza filling, first pressure cook pineapple slices in 1/4 cup water
for 3 to 4 whistles until tender, drain off excess liquid, set aside, then combine
cooked pineapple, paneer, capsicum and onions along with Britannia Roasted Garlic
Spreadz mixed herbs into a mixing bowl and add salt as desired. Mix until everything
is evenly distributed throughout.

To prepare the pizza, grease a 12-inch pizza pan or baking sheet with olive oil
and spread pizza sauce across it before topping with mozzarella cheese and scattering
ham, bacon and pickled jalapenos on top. Sprinkle chopped cilantro before baking
until the cheese bubbles and the crust becomes golden. Allow your finished masterpiece
to cool a little before cutting and serving your delicious and filling meal – ready
in about an hour including baking time!

## Chicken & Mushroom Pizza

Indulge in this autumn-inspired pizza by topping it off with roast chicken and chicken
of the woods mushrooms, along with Gruyere cheese for an irresistibly rich pizza
pie! Enjoy it atop a dough infused with earthy and comforting notes of sage and
paprika to give this pie its signature earthiness and warmth.

Prepare pizza dough as directed, adding yeast mixture in small increments while
gradually adding flour quarter cups at a time until dough becomes smooth and elastic.
Shape dough into a round disc. Preheat your oven at maximum temperature.

Brush dough lightly with 1 teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil (or Smashed Garlic
Oil if baking in a kitchen oven) and season lightly with salt. Spread out on a semolina-
dusted pizza peel (or baking sheet if using an Ooni pizza oven), leaving an 1-inch
border around all four sides, before topping with chicken-mushroom mix and remaining
cream drizzles before garnishing with fresh sage leaves for decoration.

Ooni pizza ovens take 8-9 minutes. After baking pizza until its crust is golden-
brown and its toppings bubbly, let it cool before refrigerating to serve later or
reheating in a hot skillet until heated through; leftover slices can even be drizzled
with additional melted cheese and flaky salt to create an indulgent final touch
for an enjoyable meal that is sure to please! Enjoy it alongside wine or beer and
you are certain to have an enjoyable dining experience that will surely please!

## Vegan Parmesan

If mozzarella isn’t your cup of tea, why not replace it with some shredded vegan
parmesan cheese instead? This makes a delicious pizza topping without increasing
overall cheese consumption. Plus it can help use up leftover vegan ricotta!

Make sure your plant-based pizza cheese melts smoothly in your oven with proper
preparation. While this may take some extra work, the effort will pay off! There
are now many options available in grocery stores such as Follow Your Heart, Vevan
and Parmela which should help ensure you find something suitable.

To create the crust, combine chickpea flour, salt, garlic powder, onion powder,
avocado oil and filtered water in a medium bowl and combine until batter is pourable–
almost like pancake batter. Transfer this batter onto a large lightly greased baking
sheet and spread into an even circle shape.

Roll out dough into an oval or rectangular shape on a lightly floured surface. Add
tomato sauce, fried eggplant slices and vegan parmesan on top, followed by baking
until its edges have turned golden-brown and vegetables have softened, which should
take 12-15 minutes.

To create vegan parmesan, combine raw cashews (I recommend Forager Project but Violife
can also work), salt, nutritional yeast and garlic powder into a food processor
until it resembles grated parmesan cheese in texture and appearance. Refrigerate
any extra until ready to use!

## Middle Eastern Spice Blend

Have you ever experienced the thrill of biting into an irresistibly spicy beef,
chicken, or lamb shawarma from a spit or pita? While there may be variations to
this delicious sandwich dish, many Middle Eastern cuisine dishes focus on one particular
spice mix called Za’atar that creates its distinct aroma and flavors.

This blend is herby, tangy, nutty with just the slightest kick of heat. While ingredients
may differ slightly depending on where in the Middle East you reside, typically
this mix will include thyme, oregano, marjoram, sumac and sesame seeds.

Some recipes also incorporate black peppercorns, paprika, ground cinnamon and cloves
for an authentic Middle Eastern spice blend known as Ras el Hanout; its ingredients
differ slightly but share similar flavor profiles.

Za’atar gets its spicy bite from sumac, an antioxidant-rich fruit from Rhus coriaria
that’s dried and ground into a coarse powder for use in recipes. Sumac gives the
dish its distinctive lemony-tart flavor while providing additional antioxidant benefits.

To create your own za’atar spice blend, toast whole spices in a skillet over medium-
high heat until fragrant, approximately 3 to 5 minutes. This will release their
oils and heighten their flavor. After toasting is complete, combine all the ingredients
into an airtight jar at room temperature before using on pizza dough before baking–
simply brushing some olive oil onto it beforehand then topping with your homemade
spice blend!

## Fresh Herbs

Herbs make a tasty pizza topping, but can be difficult to work with. A pizza oven’s
400deg F heat can quickly discolor tender herbs into bitter sauce; therefore it
is essential that they be properly prepared and stored prior to being added into
a pizza.

Start with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Next, prepare your herbs in accordance
with the recipe you are planning – hard herbs like rosemary are best added directly
into sauce and baked into dough; soft herbs such as basil can be scattered onto
hot pizza once it comes out of the oven. For garnish or aromatic oil use, it is
best to sprinkle them over finished dish rather than finely chop and add at table.

Many cultures use large amounts of fresh herbs in their cuisine, including Middle
Eastern tabbouleh, Italian use of basil on caprese salads and Mediterranean dishes,
Scandinavian use of fresh dill in fish stews like lohikeitto (LOW-hee-kee-tuh).
Herbs packed with powerful antioxidants may help prevent chronic diseases while
supporting immunity; enjoy them both savory dishes like this vegetarian spinach
and fig pizza or as dessert options!
