Soil tests provide valuable insight into soil pH and fertility levels, helping to prevent fertilizer from being the cause of yield-limiting issues as well as curb excessive nutrient applications which are both costly and damaging to the environment. Phosphorous
Rhubarb is a perennial plant with leaves and stalks. Your soil test results will dictate the appropriate phosphorus (P2O5) and potash (K2O) rates, so select a fertilizer which best provides them. Consider selecting either mixed fertilizers with 46% P2O5 content or single grade materials like triple superphosphate (46% P2O5) or sulfate of potash (50% K2O). When planting in salty soils, avoid products containing excess chloride; these may damage roots.
Magnesium
Rhubarb requires well-draining soil with ample nutrients in order to thrive, with sticky roots or stunted growth being an indicator of poor conditions that could result in stunted or stunted rhubarb development or even rot.
