Bring water and rice to a boil before reducing to low and covering. Simmer until all the liquid has been absorbed (tilt your saucepan to make sure), and allow the dish to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Pilafs and Stir-Fries

Rice is an indispensable pantry item that can transform into satisfying sides, nutritious main courses and budget-friendly lunches. Filo pilafs made with long grain white rice make a delicious weeknight dinner upgrade and family favorite – this easy recipe for classic pilaf is an effortless way to add flavor and nutrition into everyday meals by coating each grain in butter, garlic and spices – it pairs especially well with dishes like gumbo, red beans and rice and creole/etouffee dishes!

Toasting rice before adding liquid is key to creating perfectly fluffy results, keeping each grain separate and speeding up cooking without becoming sticky or soggy. This easy cooking method works for any variety of rice including brown, jasmine and basmati varieties – simply combine all your ingredients into a saucepan before stirring, bringing to a boil, reducing heat and simmering until all liquid has been absorbed before removing from heat for 10 more minutes so steam continues cooking your dish before fluffing with a fork once cool and serve!

Tomatillo Shrimp Creole can make for an easy yet flavorful dinner when combined with rice pilaf. Long-grain rice absorbs all the bright savory and citrus notes perfectly while pairing well with shrimp. When finished off with cilantro and hot sauce for extra zesty flair.

This same cooking method also makes for delicious stir-fry recipes. Mix and match proteins (beef, chicken, pork or veggies) for an exciting meal that’s ready in under 30 minutes! Soups

Long grain rice is a pantry essential, yet its versatility extends far beyond being served up as side dishes. Discover its perfect cooking methods, freezer tips and protein pairings that turn simple grains into satisfying sides, main courses or fast lunchtime solutions.

To achieve optimal results when making long-grain white rice, begin by rinsing it before starting to cook it (this helps remove extra starch and produce fluffier grains). If using a large pot, consider adding one cup of water per cup of uncooked grain for extra steaming power. Once prepared to begin, simply combine all your ingredients and bring to a boil before gradually decreasing heat so the rice simmers gently throughout its entirety.

Long-grain rice boasts a higher moisture content when cooked than aromatic varieties such as basmati and jasmine, making it an excellent choice for soups and casseroles. Plus, its sturdy nature means it stands up well when sauteing like in this delicious one-pot dinner featuring citrusy tomatillos, chicken broth with cilantro, spicy shrimp, and zesty salsa verde!

Store cooked rice in your freezer to quickly upgrade weeknight meals. After making a batch, scoop it into freezer-safe plastic bags or containers and label them with its type, date and number of servings – this way it won’t take up too much room in storage, lasting two months in your pantry! It can come in especially handy when you need something prepared quickly without time to prepare it beforehand.

Burrito Bowls

Rice is the star ingredient of burrito bowls, an enjoyable way to consume more whole grains while simultaneously increasing protein, vegetables and other flavorful components. Our One-Skillet Crispy Chicken Burrito Bowl features long grain rice that absorbs the flavor of broth and chicken for a satiating base – ideal for accommodating all sorts of different ingredients! Use inexpensive chicken thighs and drumsticks, or substitute with another meat alternative of your choosing for maximum enjoyment in this recipe.

Cooking long grain white rice on the stove can be straightforward if you follow these tips. First, select an appropriate variety – long grain white is often labeled as such for burrito bowls and other recipes, while other kinds may require different water ratios and cooking times.

Use a saucepan large enough to accommodate both water and rice, and heat it over medium high heat until it begins to simmer gently. If the surface of the rice isn’t bubbling, reduce heat further to low before covering with a lid for 13 minutes before taking it off the heat altogether and leaving it sit covered for another 10 before fluffing with a fork before serving.

If you want to make this ahead of time, let the cooked rice cool before refrigerating or freezing in an airtight container for up to three days in the refrigerator and six months in a freezer-safe bag or container. When it’s time for serving, simply microwave until fluffy before heating in a separate dish in the microwave before layering toppings ahead of time as part of meal prepping for the week.

Casseroles

Casseroles made with long grain rice are sure to please, making an ideal family dinner or weeknight dinner option. Casseroles can easily be customized using any meats or veggies available; and there are healthy variations available too. You can adapt any of these recipes for use in a slow cooker; simply layer ingredients in an aluminum baking dish before covering and placing on low for four to six hours until everything is bubbling and tender.

No matter if it’s just for dinner or part of a full casserole dish, it is crucial to get the basics of rice cooking right first. Avoid common errors that can lead to bland or soggy grains by taking time with preparation.

One of the most frequently made mistakes when cooking rice is using too much water; most recipes call for 2 cups for every cup of grain, but this can result in overly soft and sticky grain. Another issue is not rinsing before cooking; though rinsing does remove extra starch, it doesn’t significantly change fluffiness; for optimal results use my ideal ratio and method for stovetop cooking, which produces fluffy yet distinct grains.

Always simmer rice on low heat until all the liquid has been absorbed, which should take an average stove 13 minutes to do. Avoid lifting or stirring while it simmers as this may allow steam to escape, compromising its even cooking. Likewise, don’t skip resting your finished product for 10 minutes as any residual steam will absorb into its natural state, creating fluffy results!

Fried Rice

Rice is an easily accessible pantry staple. Affordable and versatile, it makes an affordable side, main, or lunch option. Be sure to keep some cooked white long grain rice handy so you always have something on hand if need be!

No matter if it’s for weeknight upgrades that transform simple rice into tasty sides, filling main courses, budget-friendly meals or perfecting fried rice itself; using chilled cooked grains is key for the best results. When placing it into the hot pan it will disintegrate instantly without developing the crunchy textures we love about good fried rice dishes!

So to achieve perfect fried rice every time, cook up a batch of white or brown rice a day ahead and allow it to cool fully before refrigerating until cold. This will produce moist but firm enough grain that you can crisp up in your hot pan without creating soggy piles of food! If you’re making a large batch of rice, spread it out on a baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap to prevent it from sticking. Break up any clumps and freeze until completely frozen (it is okay if some of the rice has partially defrosted) before breaking it up into pieces and placing in a labelled, resealable freezer bag for up to three months. When ready to enjoy, simply thaw in the fridge overnight before heating as directed – be sure to add extra soy sauce for additional flavor!
