Recipe – Apple Turnovers
Apple turnovers are an easy way to make something delicious that is also healthy! They can be made with any type of fruit you like. Apples work well because they have such a sweet flavor but still hold their shape when cooked.
Basic Recipe Information
Apple turnovers are great appetizers at parties or holiday meals. You can use them as dessert, too, if you want to add some extra sweetness. Keto dieters should note that this recipe contains butter which makes it high in fat. If you’re on a low-fat diet, then try using coconut oil instead. It has similar properties to butter without all the saturated fats. Candida dieters may find these recipes helpful since there aren’t many processed ingredients used here. Paleo dieters might enjoy making these because they contain no grains or dairy products. Vegetarian diets would probably not appreciate eating meat-filled pastries, though.
Required equipment
You will need a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You may want to use a cookie-cutter if desired. A pastry brush works great too. You’ll also need a fork and a mixing bowl.
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 4 cups chopped peeled apples
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Preparation Direction:
Mix together all dry ingredients except the butter until combined. Add the butter and mix again until it’s crumbly. Then add your apples and toss them around so they get coated evenly. You want to keep some chunks of apple inside the dough as these will help give structure to the finished product.
Next, roll out the mixture into small balls using approximately one tablespoon each. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 325 degrees F and bake another 10-15 minutes depending on how firm you prefer your turnovers. The key here is not overbaking them; otherwise, they’ll become too hard. Remove from oven and let cool completely before serving. Garnish with powdered sugar if desired.
Servings
This is ideal for two people who love sweets. Each person could eat half of the turnovers.
How to serve
You can serve this dish plain or topped with whipped cream or ice cream. I personally love mine served with vanilla bean ice cream.
Conclusion
Preparing homemade desserts doesn’t take much effort and is always fun. Try adding different fruits to create new flavors. Enjoy! These apple turnovers are simple to prepare and taste amazing.
