Approximate Cooking Time

Number of Servings

Equipment Required

  • Mixing bowl
  • Potato masher or fork
  • Large saucepan

  • 2 pounds (900g) of potatoes
  • 1 cabbage head
  • 3 green onions
  • 1/4 (60g) cup of butter (softened)
  • 1/2 (125ml) a cup of cream (of your choice)
  • Salt and pepper for seasoning

Preparation Directions

  • Prepare all of the vegetables – peel, cube the potatoes, chop up the green onions and cabbage.
  • Add all three items into a large saucepan of boiling water, and cook for around 25 minutes, or until the potatoes are soft.
  • Once they are ready, drain the water and add the vegetables and potatoes to a mixing bowl.
  • Add the softened butter and start to mash the ingredients using your masher or fork
  • Add the cream a little bit at a time. As you continue to mash and stir – keep the potatoes slightly chunky, you don’t want a smooth mixture.
  • Once finished, add your salt and pepper as a seasoning to your taste.

Serving Suggestion

Serve on the side of a meat of your choice. Use sausages marinated in Guinness if you want the ultimate Irish experience. Of course, serve with extra vegetables or another alternative to keep the meal vegetarian.
