Equipment Required
- Mixing bowl
- Potato masher or fork
- Large saucepan
Ingredients
- 2 pounds (900g) of potatoes
- 1 cabbage head
- 3 green onions
- 1/4 (60g) cup of butter (softened)
- 1/2 (125ml) a cup of cream (of your choice)
- Salt and pepper for seasoning
Preparation Directions
- Prepare all of the vegetables – peel, cube the potatoes, chop up the green onions and cabbage.
- Add all three items into a large saucepan of boiling water, and cook for around 25 minutes, or until the potatoes are soft.
- Once they are ready, drain the water and add the vegetables and potatoes to a mixing bowl.
- Add the softened butter and start to mash the ingredients using your masher or fork
- Add the cream a little bit at a time. As you continue to mash and stir – keep the potatoes slightly chunky, you don’t want a smooth mixture.
- Once finished, add your salt and pepper as a seasoning to your taste.
Serving Suggestion
Serve on the side of a meat of your choice. Use sausages marinated in Guinness if you want the ultimate Irish experience. Of course, serve with extra vegetables or another alternative to keep the meal vegetarian.
